Little Beach House Barcelona review

Little Beach House Barcelona review - in a sentence:

A gorgeously retro, coastal escape just outside of Barcelona.

Design: 5/5

Little Beach House Barcelona might be a pint-sized hotel, with only 17 bedrooms… but boy does it pack a punch!

Housed in a 1950s low-rise, the building's heritage is evident in the interiors and a mid-century thread weaves its way throughout.

The design scheme is probably my favourite of the Soho House properties I've visited, so far – Soho House are experts are blending traditional schemes with more modern elements, and it works incredibly well here. I'd best describe this particular "blend" as a contemporary take on coastal chic, with more traditional rustic touches.

Highlights were the tactile wall hangings and pebbly ceramic light fixtures in the bedrooms, as well as the stunning turquoise terrazzo flooring used in the common areas.

Food & drink: 4/5

The wraparound terrace restaurant could not be a more stunning setting for those moments when you must tear yourself way from your sun lounger for sustenance. There's also a rooftop terrace with incredible views over the bay.

The menu features traditional Spanish fare alongside some Soho House faves. We thought the food was excellent, but the only down side I would note is that the menu is quite short, and is the same for lunch and dinner. So you would definitely need to go elsewhere for variety if you were staying longer than 2 nights.

Location: 5/5

Little Beach House Barcelona is located in Garraf, a tiny fishing village nestled in a bay just south of Barcelona.

The secluded, beachfront location was a major highlight of staying here – the property is literally on the beach, and as soon as you enter the hotel you're greeted by a panoramic view of the sea from the huge windows at the front of reception… literally idyllic!

If you book a sea view room (which I would highly recommend if budget allows), you'll be able to fall asleep to the gentle lapping of the waves on the shore, mere feet away from you. To me, that's utter bliss.

It'll take you about 30 mins to get there from Barcelona city centre – either a taxi or the commuter train take about the same amount of time, but the train fare is VERY cheap, so that's what we did!

It's also worth noting that Little Beach House is only a 10 min taxi from Barcelona airport. So I would really recommend timing your stay here either at the very beginning or end of your trip, before you need to head off to the airport.

To-do: 3/5

Garraf is absolutely teeny so there's little to do here, barring eating/drinking/relaxing the day away – which was just what we wanted, after a few days pounding the pavement in the city centre!

If, like us, you're looking to spend a couple of days chilling after your city break then I think it's perfect. If you were planning to stay any longer, as above, I'd say you'd need to make your way into nearby Sitges (or pop into Barcelona city centre) in the evening for greater variety of restaurants and bars.

Anything else I should know?

Make sure you pack a day bag for your check-out day – as with all Soho House properties, the staff wholeheartedly encourage you to make the most of the facilities post-check out, which is lovely. There are shower rooms (stocked with all the Cowshed toiletries you need), towels and lockers so you can freshen up before you finally (sob) have the leave the house.

The final word:

Everyone recommends this particular outpost, of the two Soho House properties in Barcelona – and I can totally see why this would trump the other. I can't give Little Beach House a better review, to be honest. Definitely one of the best places to stay in Barcelona, and I absolutely loved it!
